Exhibitions 2010
'The Relationship ' Salamander Gallery, Belfast and 'Collettiva MIRA', Martignano, Italy
In 'The Relationship' Exhibition :
Featured artists engage in a variety of approaches and use a diverse range of visual imagery including, concepts of ‘Landscape and the body’, ‘symbolism and colour’, the human figure and still life.
‘The Relationship’ is interpreted by the artists as their relationship together as individuals, the relationship with their art in the journey of a painting and finally the relationship of the artwork both as a free standing body of work for each painter and as a whole collection of paintings in response to the other.
The artists are concerned with the experiences of life. Life’s deep whispers, coincidences, echos and resonances which reveal themselves and emanate through one’s day. The creative process requires the harnessing of these triggers, the encouragement which catches and follows these exquisite threads from one’s depth. Bringing to the light these random snatches, then enabling, expressing , disclosing and making visible one’s inner terrain through the rich and multifarious manifestations possible of a painting in it’s purest form.
Vibrancy and energy are apparent in each of these artists’ processes . Colour being a driving force. Almost anything is a potential subject for study, primitive organisms, inanimate objects, The Kennedys, cellular structures and the archetypal angel all find themselves bursting forth from the canvas. This exhibition invites us to reconsider and review everyday objects, the body, the land and familiar yet apparently insignificant images in new ways.
Our attempts to find and express our bearings in the world and make sense of it is a fundamental desire for all of us , for the artist this brings with it unlimited possibilities with which these three artists are passionately engaging and bringing to the light.
‘The Relationship’ exhibition presents an opportunity to view this varied collection of paintings that reflect the fertile nature of the artists’ journey.
In 'Collettiva MIRA', the artist displays work from her two month residency in Martignano, Italy in June and July 2010. It is a four person exhibition.
